Comparative study of resistance to antibiotics of strains of Klebsiella isolated in urinary and respiratory infections

چکیده
Results The resistance to antibiotics was higher in Klebsiella pneumoniae strains isolated from urine culture compared to those isolated in respiratory infections in case of: a) beta-lactams (ceftriaxone 45.2% versus 69.5%, cefaclor 36.7% versus 52.9%, cefuroxime 49.3% versus 61.9%, cefoperazone-sulbactam 70.6% versus 85.7%, piperacillintazobactam 58.1% versus 75.5%, aztreonam 45.8% versus 66.6%, ampicillin-sulbactam 46.4% versus 69.1%, amoxicillin-clavulanic acid 26.8% versus 40.5%), b) quinolones (ciprofloxacin 61.8% versus 83.4%), c) co-trimoxazole (45.4% versus 82.8%). The sensitivity profile showed no major differences for: colistin (82.7% versus 81.6%), carbapenems (95.2% versus 97.8%) and aminoglycosides (72.3% versus 75.8%).

Antibiotic Resistance Pattern and the Prevalence of Extended Spectrum Beta-Lactamases (ESBLs) in Urinary Isolates of Klebsiella Pneumoniae
Abstract Background and Objective: Klebsiella pneumoniae is an opportunistic nosocomial pathogen causing a variety of infections including urinary tract infections, pneumonia, septicemia, wound infections and infections in the intensive care units. Since the ESBL producing Klebsiella pneumoniae strains are increasingly causing urinary tract infections, we aim to assess antibiotic resistance pat...
متن کاملEvaluation of antibiotic resistance associated with ophthalmic oqxAB pumps in Klebsiella pneumoniae causing urinary tract infection
Background: The urinary tract infection is the secondary most common human infection. Colon bacteria, including Klebsiella pneumonia, are the main cause of urinary tract infections. The occurrence of the antibiotic resistance is a major problem in the treatment of infections. Beta- lactamases and efflux pumps constitute the major defense mechanisms of antibiotic resistance of Klebsiella pneumon...
متن کاملPlasmid- mediated cefotaxime and ceftizoximd resistance in Ten strains of klebsiella pneumoniae isolated from hospitals in Kerman,Iran
Klebsiella pneumonia is a gram negative bacillus of which it's resistant strains are a common source of nosocomial infections . The goal of this study is determination of drug sensitivity of these resistant strains, and study of causes involved in the resistant especially the presence of plasmid. Ten different strains of klebsiella pneumoniae were isolated from clinical specimens collected from...

Background and Objectives: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is the presence of pathogens in the urinary tract. Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae are the most common bacteria responsible for UTI. Due to the variety of antibiotic resistance mechanisms, treatment of these infections has been difficult, therefore, selection of appropriate antibiotic has an effective role in controlling and im...
متن کاملEvaluation of the prevalence of broad-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) and carbapenemase genes in Klebsiella pneumoniae strains isolated from burn wounds in patients referred to Shahid Motahari Hospital in Tehran
Background: Klebsiella species are common causes of nosocomial, ulcers, blood and urinary tract infections, and also acquired pneumonia from the hospital and various intra-abdominal infections. Bacterial resistance mechanisms against antibiotics are different, but one of these resistance mechanisms, which is very problematic, is the production of β-lactamase enzymes in bacteria. The aim of this...

Background and Aim: Klebsiella pneumoniae is a member of the Enterobacteriaceae family. There is a global emergence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains of K. pneumoniae, a Gram-negative enteric bacterium that causes nosocomial and urinary tract infections. The aims of the present study were to identify the Klebsiella pneumoniae infections in hospitalized patients, characterization of blaCTX ge...
